I’m blowing balloons with my nose

No. No, I’m absolutely not kidding. I wish I was. I would love to be annnnnywhere other than standing in my bathroom watching myself blow up a balloon with my nose. LOL. I just, I just can’t. My life man.

I have an issue with my eardrum. It’s not moving with sound like it should. I’ve done extensive PT on it. It’s not working. The next step would be a procedure I don’t want. As a last resort I found Otovent. I’m telling you when I found this I for real thought someone was pranking me. It’s a balloon attached to a nose piece that you blow up with your nose in hopes of regulating the pressure in your Eustachian tube. No, I’m not fucking kidding. Stop looking at me like that, I didn’t make it. I’ve had so many issues with my ears. Actually it’s just the left one, he’s an asshole. It started with a weird balance thing and a blocked ear. When the doctor told me what it was my ear was so blocked I thought she said “You have a space station issue”. I almost fell over, I have a what now? Ma’am my space station is just fine. How dare you.

So, three times a day I stand in my bathroom and blow this damn thing up with my nose while my better half yells: “Booger Balloon!” from the other room. Kill me. I shit you not. Every time.

Apparently the issue I have is also called “Glue Ear”. Really? Could we get any more ridiculous? Why? The fucking mental that accompanies that. LOL.

So, there you have it. I am blowing booger balloons for medical reasons. What are you doing?

Fungus gnats, runny eyeballs, & Salad for breakfast

Fungus gnats are the worst. I want to burn my whole house down and start over. Is that an option? I’ve treated evvvery plant I own. I don’t want to admit how many that is.

The funny part about the kittens I adopted what the rescue named the male: Leopold. Who the hell even thinks of such a name these days? Me. Me, that’s who. I do. That’s a name I would have chosen, lol. I didn’t know his name when I told the rescue I wanted him. When she handed me the paperwork, I laughed so hard. Welp, that was meant to be. I would have named him Mr. Humphries, so Leopold tracks. Don’t look at me like that. At least I didn’t name him Wilberforce.

Mr. Leopold Humphries is at the vet with my better half because the whole adoption process was sketchy as hell, and they are smaller than I think they should be. I wanted them checked out as soon as possible. Plus, Leopold’s eye looks irritated. Do you hear that sound? It’s real loud. It’s the sound of me hemorrhaging money. I don’t even want to talk about the HUGE kitten cage I am waiting on and how much that cost. Totally not sorry. These kittens are wayyyyyy younger than the rescue told me. They are so tiny. So, so tiny. I have dogs, these kittens need to be protected until they can protect themselves when I am not home. (Annnnnd it was just confirmed from the vet that they are so much younger than I was told. WTF people. Eh, just more justification of the crazy amount of money I spend on a catio lololol).

I guess I should thank the Universe. It gave me what I wanted for the first time in a while. I wonder if that means the coming year is going to be better than the last 5. lol. One can hope, right?

I made salad for breakfast because I couldn’t decide what I wanted, so of course that meant salad. I need to go shopping, ugh. There’s that sound again.

Rando blurry photo of my coffee cup. Isn’t it pretty?

But the real beauty is the coaster:

I guess I should get ready for work. Ugh, pants. I hate pants.

Everything is Fine

Trigger Warning Made in a facility that processes death.

I lost my Mom, my cat, and my dog within 5 months. All three of them had been with me for decades. Don’t look at me like that. I’ve been alive longer than I had my mom. When my cat died (her sister having died about a year prior) I decided that I didn’t want another cat unless it was a Maine Coon. Since I am cheap, I knew damn well that wasn’t happening anytime soon. They are thousands.

A few days ago, in the pet store for dog treats, I looked up and saw a Maine Coon looking Kitten. When I got closer it was exactly what I wanted. He looked mixed but was huge for his age. His sister was also available, she was tiny. Of course, better half fell in love with the tiny one. I immediately wanted the male. I followed the directions posted: go to the website, fill out application on the cat you want, bla bla. He wasn’t listed. So, I sent a text to the organization just asking if he was available and just thought: Well, I will leave it up to the Universe.

Well, the Universe had plans for sure. I was interested in one kitten. But, within the hour of making contact with the rescue, I was headed home with two. I fuckkkkkked up. Fuck me running.

Send help. LOL.

Douchebag

(Trigger Warning – allll the suicided)

Several months ago I stepped down from my position and moved departments. Took a pay cut.

The department I was in was so toxic. We are talkin’ daily verbal and professional assault. It was fuckin’ terrible. It was really hard to let go of my people, the team I built from the ground up. It was hard to give up and walk away. I spent three years being a buffer for these people. Helping them navigate a pandemic. Keeping them out of harms way and taking the punches. I just couldn’t do it anymore. The burnout is real.

I moved to the ICU in a lesser position. It’s been an experience, for sure. I have been in a supervisor role for so long that being in a role where I have no say in anything was refreshing and fucking weird. The people I work for and with are fantastic. I’d follow them to hell and back, so having no control is fine with me. They are so kind. I’m grateful for the break.

I worked really closely with ICU for years so the move wasn’t really a big change other than the work environment improved 100%. They asked for me, and I’m so glad they did. Because, I don’t know that I would have moved on my own. I loved the team I built and feared what would happen when I left (turns out everything I feared unfolded about a week after I transferred. Ugh).

May is their birthday week. It’s also our anniversary month. While at work, one of the ICU nurses that I work closely with asked me a question that I answered truthfully. It led to me giving a quick synopsis of their suicide and the aftermath. The nurse, Jon, spun around and looked me in the eyes and said: “Wow, what a douchebag”. When I say I laughed, oh my stars. That’s the first time I’ve had that reaction from someone. I laughed and replied “Yeah, a little”. Jon started to apologize. I was still laughing. Truthfully, it was a welcome response. Had it been 5 years ago this would have put me in mental choke hold. I explained that, and that he had no reason to be sorry. I then explained that for the most part, they didn’t have a choice in their thoughts or actions; I told Jon the diagnosis. I will never forget his response. Never. Because it was the first time anyone had ever completely understood the situation. He locked eyes with me and said “So, they blamed you then. They left a note blaming you didn’t they?”. The world spun. It fuckin’ spun for the first time in a while. I’d never told anyone. Jon went on to say something to the effect of (don’t quote me here my brain was coming to a full stop at this point): “people with that diagnosis, their chemicals are all messed up and they blame the spouse.” I’d never had anyone understand the situation, or connect the dots so completely like that. I never had anyone point this out. I don’t think I knew this was common.

He had no idea what he did for my soul that day. She did leave a note. She did blame me. I blamed me. I blame me even though I know logically it wasn’t in my hands.

It’s true that ICU is a different animal. Apparently it’s the one I didn’t even know I needed.

Droping hints

For my birthday a few years ago my kid and my wife got me thirsty stone coasters. They were fitting because they had little sayings on them that sounded JUST like the things I tell (read “would yell at”) my family.

two days in a row I have found that the one I keep under my water on my bedside table has been placed on my sides of the bed. .

Think she’s trying to tell me something? hahahaha. I’m dead.

Guess I need to check in with my wife. BAHAHAHAHA!!!

I noticed

Yeah, I did. It didn’t surprise me.

I knew as soon as I added verbiage that revealed I had a wife not a husband even my long time followers would drop off. I lost people that I had conversated with often all because my person was not the gender seen appropriate to you.

Originally when I started writing 10 years ago —- 10 YEARS AGO, whoa. I was concerned for privacy, I had a young child and a mentally unwell partner. We couldn’t afford any type of a hate crime. I was pulling us forward by strings and any loss or injury to one of us would have sent us all spiraling — as my followers close friends witnessed when my wife committed suicide. I had us packed tightly and safely in this little bubble for a long time. No rainbows. No new friends. Nothing that could put us in the spotlight.

I had always thought I’d reveal more about my life (here) as a sort of social experiment later in life. See who reacted and how. I’ve always been a people watcher, it’s interesting you know? But that all fell to the side when my wife fell apart and I couldn’t catch her. After she left I did more than spiral. The only thing that I could muster was to keep my child’s world stable. Everything else mental, behind the scenes, mine – it suffered, and I outed myself when my kid was no longer a young child. Then, recently I have been more verbal because that same kid is 18 and I was mentally ready to deal with the digital shenanigans that comes with being openly different in a world with no genuine tolerance.

So. Just so you know I noticed the ones that immediately left. I noticed the ones that stuck around to make sure it wasn’t a phase and to quote a message I received “would finally find God”. lol I saw it all.

You know what else I saw? The hate in a CNA’s eyes when she asked me if what she heard was correct and I had a wife. The look deepen when I turned to give her my full attention and answer her. The look I couldn’t put my finger on till later when she said “They put them to death with stones where I come from”. Instead of getting upset I asked her to tell me more. I could see the wheels turning. Her eyes softened when I listened and took it all in. I then saw something I recognized. I thanked her for sharing with me. I noticed the bewilderment.

A week later I saw her again and she hurried towards me. The same person who stepped back when I told her my child was raised by two woman, she rushed at me and grabbed my arm. She pulled me to the side and asked me if it would be ok if she asked me some questions. I thought she meant about the patient I was caring for. She asked me every question she could think of about lesbians and gay people. I answered every one as honestly as I could. She told me she wasn’t supposed to speak to gay people; Her culture saw that in the same way they saw actual gay people. I told her that I understood and would answer any questions she had in any way she needed. I never once said a negative word about the culture that hated me so much. I simply thanked her for educating me.

She went on to catch me a few more times openly in the hospital and asked me more questions. Each time becoming more and more friendly.

I moved to the overnight shift and thought about her once in a while. We worked opposite shifts and I hadn’t seen her for months until a few weeks ago. I saw her walking quickly towards me. I smiled through my mask and had the intention of walking by her with a little head nod adhering to our previous encounters in openly public areas. Only this time she RUSHED at me full force and pulled me into a hug loudly demanding to know where I had been, in the café of a busy hospital. I don’t think I ever smiled so big.

last week I saw her again from afar. She was sporting a hair cut that is not common for someone in her culture. It’s a hair cut I see often in my community. I walked up to her to say hi and received the same welcome as last time, same busy café, same huge hug. I immediately expressed how much I loved her hair and she gave me that look, you know the one, smiled and hugged me again. All because I noticed through the hate.

So, to all of you who have walked away because of who I choose to make my person: CatrionaIsCrazy@gmail.com any day, any time.

Also, Fuck Mondays.
